David Macakay is the recently appointed Chief Scientific adviser to Ed Miliband - the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, so its reasonable to assume that everything he says has the approval of the minister.
Last week in the Sunday Times he said that he wants to see an end to the use of gas for central heating, and the replacement of boilers with air source heat pumps that extract energy from the atmosphere. Not surpisingly, at Green Air we wholeheatedly support that view.....but he didn't stop there.
He went on to say that "setting fire to chemicals like gas should be made a thermodynamic crime. If people want heat they should be forced to get it from heat pumps. That would be a sensible piece of legislation".
That might sound a bit extreme, but if he is allowed to say that in public, its reasoable to assume that the government are considering some sort of measure to actively discourage long term use of gas for central heating........and that surely can only mean making alternatives like the technology Green Air Central Heating systems use more attractive by taxing gas burning homeowners more.
