GREen air v renewable energy alernatives?
Green Air Central Heating v Ground Source Heat Pumps?
- Good? – Even though Air Source heat pump efficiency is very high, Ground Source has a marginally higher CoP. The system works by extracting heat energy stored in the ground via a network of underground brine filled pipes.
- Not so good? - But because of the need for a long underground network of pipes (between 100m and 300m) that have to be trenched into your garden, its prohibitively expensive and time consuming to install, and highly intrusive. And if you dont have a garden, too bad!
- A Green Air system requires no ground works, is easy to install, and only requires access to fresh air! So we think that compared to a ground source heat pump system, a Green Air system is the clear winner.
Green Air Central Heating v Biomass Boilers?
- •Good? - Biomass systems extract heat energy in a similar way to a conventional boiler, but through burning wood, or wood pellets instead of oil or gas.
- Biomass is carbon neutral in that the CO2 released is the same amount as absorbed by the tree during its growth.
- Not so good? - To accommodate their bulky fuel source, Biomass boilers are big and very expensive, and need substantial adjacent, fireproof space to store the fuel.
- Ensuring that wood or wood chips are consistently fed into a biomass boiler can be time consuming and hard work depending on whether its done by hand or via a hopper.
- A Green Air system uses abundant heat energy in the air, produces only clean, cold air as an exhaust, is easy to integrate in an average domestic environment, and is cheaper than a biomass system. So we think that unless you live in a forest, Green Air eco friendly heating is simply a better alternative to Biomass heating.
