Solar Heating ‘v’ Air Source Heating
PRO’s
Once installed solar heating panels are a truly renewable energy source producing hot water at almost nil cost once initial installation is discounted.
CON’s
Solar water heating systems require back-up hot water system for when its too dark to produce hot water from the suns energy. This would require the property to still have a conventional boiler, combi-boiler or another heating method alongside the solar panels.
Additionally, the hot water flow rate from a solar panel system isn’t high enough to supply a central heating system, and it is least efficient when it’s needed most - at dawn and dusk.
Furthermore, solar panels need to be placed on a south facing wall that receives direct sunlight for the majority of the day, not always a realistic expectation in the UK climate.
Why consider an Air Source Heat Pump?
Air source heat pumps can be used to fulfill all your hot water needs throughout the year no matter what temperature and weather conditions.
Air source heat pumpscan also be used for all your heating needs from under floor heating to radiators and domestic hot water, as well as swimming pools.
The Ecodan air source heat pump can be placed discreetly outside your house causing little intrusion whilst still delivering the central heating and hot water required.
